First Impression-Daredevil:Born Again
The revival of Marvel's Daredevil shows a new foundation to the Daredevil character
My first reaction to this show was honestly that it’s truly a really good show and has the potential to be an even better one. However, it did have some minor defects. Here’s where I’ll begin: in the beginning, we see Matt Murdock jumping across a couple of buildings to find the person who shot up Josie’s bar. Now, while this may have looked cool in the way it was filmed, the shot, the CGI, and the camera angle, in all honestly, just looked awful. The jump from building to building looked so awful.
Now, to my next point, which I think was truly interesting. Unfortunately, I can’t do this without a spoiler, so before you read, please beware of spoilers. After Foggy’s death, we can see how that affects Matt in the way he throws Dex off the building the second we hear Foggy’s heart stop. I also loved the way they showed this scene with Matt fighting because we can see his internal struggle but also trying to pay attention to Foggy’s heartbeat.
Next, there’s a huge time jump a year later, and we see Matt working with the person from the DA’s office Foggy had talked to in the first episode, which I found quite interesting. I think it’s maybe how they connected more. Fisk is out of prison now, and Vanessa is seemingly running things, but something between them felt really off. Fisk is suddenly running for mayor, which made me quite lost as to what his agenda is to just decide he wants to run for mayor, especially after his conversation with Matt at the diner. The thing that is also interesting to me is how Fisk wants all masked vigilantes gone. One thing I don’t understand is how Fisk can even run for mayor if he has a criminal record before. If I’m not mistaken, you can’t run for office if there’s a criminal record, but correct me if I’m wrong.
It also feels like with Vanessa seemingly running things now it seems she’s taking advantage of Fisk. It seems like she’s using his love and obsession for her against him for what? I’m unsure as to where this will lead now.
Now, Matt’s representing someone who killed a cop on accident as they were doing something off the books. However, this person is also White Tiger, which is found out by Cherry, who learned of Matt’s identity due to the events of the aftermath of Foggy’s death. So, there’s this issue of getting that witness of who those cops were interrogating.
Overall, I think these two episodes were really good, but I feel like some of the editing just isn’t as good, and the CGI needs some work, and there are some plot holes, but I’m sure we'll see more to explain this as the show goes on.
